The 2 kg mass is placed on top of the angle bracket to keep it from falling off the board.
Make sure string pulls directly over pulley; this takes a lot of adjusting (also required before each lab).
Be sure to have sufficient masses suspended to that any small closure error is small compared to the average weight.
Don't forget that the mass hanger is itself 50 g.
