  • If fewer setups are needed, the sodium sources can be placed on the back benches - follow these maps for 7 spectrometers or 6 spectrometers (click each map for a larger view):

• Hydrogen source setup:
  • Place each spectrometer on wood platforms; elevates to proper height
  • Stagger spectrometers on bench as shown below; that way, there will be less interference from other sources in the lab

 

• The images below show the Sodium (Na) source, a Light Block and Light aperture assembly:
  • If 7 or 8 spectrometers are used, use a Light Block to cover the aperture on one side of the sodium source. The Light Block slides into the closest channel on the sodium source.
  • A light aperture is installed on the side(s) of the sodium source to be viewed. Remove the two grating mounting rods from the light aperture assembly; they should only be fingre-tight, but a 5/32" allen wrench can be used if necessary. Be sure to place the screws into the rods so they don't get lost, as shown in the photo below.
    • Be sure to return the grating mounting rods to the aperture assembly when the lab is cleaned up
