Notes:

• Lab Setup (photo details):
  • Note: Match the letter on the hose to the track letter (e.g. Track A connected to hose A, etc.)
  • Black Tracks (A – D), Black Carts:
    • Each black track will have four black carts, labeled with numbers1 through 4, as well as the letter of the track (A through D) as shown at right
    • Attach two bumpers to the eight carts with numbers 3 and 4 as follows: place a nylon washer on the thumb screw, then insert the screw through hole in the spring bumper and then screw it into the cart.
    • Place two 50-g masses and the cart flags in the small box next to each track
  • Silver Tracks (E – H), Gold Carts:
    • Each silver track with have two gold carts; one cart is labeled 1-3 and the other 2-4, as shown at right.
    • Place the flag in the groove along the center of the cart
    • Place two 50-g masses in the small box next to each track
    • Note that the spring bumpers are not removed from the gold carts!
    • Place a drafting board under the double-legs of each track. This makes them easier to level
  • Note: We have enough 4^th/5^th/6^th generation photogates for 7 tracks, so one track will need to use a pair of 3^rd generation photogates.
    • For next week's setup, move all 3^rd generation photogates to the College Physics lab for the Phys103 Motion of Constant Acceleration setup. The remaining photogates will be distributed among the air tracks.
  • Stuff for Jeff to deal with:
    • Adjust photogates so they are tripped by flag
    • Match pairs of photogates; the right photogate should give a slightly longer time than the left!
    • Put out two electronic balances before each lab
