Diffraction Gratings and the Hydrogen Spectrum
BlackBoard Notes
======================= Photo - Click for a Larger Version =============================
======================= First Board Section =============================
- Today's Mission:
- Part I: Calibrate the grating
- Part II & III: Measure H wavelengths
- {Applies to both previous entries} Have your values checked as soon as they are calculated! Redo as necessary!
- Next week (or on your own!):
- Part IV: Draw energy level diagram, calculate actual λ's, finish journal
======================= Second (LARGE) Board Section =============================
(Draw the following pics side-by-side)
- Handle the grating with care!
(Write the following below both pics)
- Lights ON:
- ALL lights OFF (No Later Than 3:00 p.m.!):
-
- Note: I need to put the following picture in the instructions. If I have, then this does not need to be written on the blackboard
- Angle calculated from spectrometer readings (part III, step 6):
- Why not a simple average? θn = 0 ≠ 0°!
======================= Third Board Section =============================
- Important Notes:
- Don't disturb the spectrometers until you've been shown their operation.
- Leave H lamp turned OFF until ready to measure.
- Print today's instructions so you won't have your laptop open when using the spectrometer
