Nanopositioning using Piezoelectric Ceramics
Cathy Eady
Abstract:
To obtain high resolution images with a near-field scanning optical microscope, it is necessary that the coarse positioning of the probe relative to the sample is well controlled and reproducible. We have implemented a piezoelectric walker to accomplish this task. Some of the advantages of piezoelectric induced motion include the following: 1) walking provides for a well controlled motion, 2) it is all electronic (no stepper motors or screws), and 3) it is compact in nature.
