Flux
of Cosmic Ray Muons
at Low Energies
Jeremy Ouellette '04
Abstract:
Using a mixture of fundamental principles, assumptions
from other models and previously known data we developed a model for the low
energy flux of muons at sea level. This model predicted that over the energy
range 176 MeV to 409 MeV, the muon flux as a function of
energy should be increasing. However, measurements showed that over this range,
the muon flux was actually
decreasing, with a confidence level above 99%. The absolute flux of muons in
this range was at
296 MeV.
