Running in Circles
Ms. Bradley, the cross country and track
coach, decides that she will make her runners' practice run interesting. On a
large field, she draws 16 circles, as shown below. She tells the runners that
each circle has a radius of 7 meters. She then tells them that they are going
to run the path shown by the red/bold parts of the circles.
1.
How far will her team run to complete one lap?
2. How many laps will her team need to run to simulate a 5000
meter run?
3. What is the area bounded inside the path?
