Problem Of the Week
Spring
2006
POW #2
One day,
Albert turns onto an unfamiliar and deserted highway. Driving along he spots a 100 km marker. Mistaking it for a speed limit, Albert starts
driving at exactly 100 km/hr. A while later he reaches the 98 km marker and immediately drops his
speed to 98 kph. Soon, up comes the 96 km marker, where Albert
immediately slows down to 96 kph. Then there's the 94 km
marker, and
Albert slows down to 94 kph. Albert continues in this way (with markers
every 2 km) until he reaches the end of the road and the 0 km marker, where he
stops.
How
long does Albert's journey take from the time he passes the original
100 km marker
and what is Albert's average speed for the journey?
ps. Don't try this
on the 401.
