POW 9: How Much Salt?
A quantity of 200 lbs of salt is
dissolved in a vat of water so that there are 600 gallons of salt water to
begin a salt pumping experiment. Next,
salt water containing 1 pound of salt per gallon of water is continuously
pumped into the vat at the rate of 5 gallons per minute. Fluid is pumped out of the tank also at the
rate of 5 gallons per minute. Assuming a
uniform mixture of water and salt at all times through agitation, find the amount
of salt in the tank after 5 hours.
Due Friday, April 6th , at Noon.
Solutions should be
submitted to Dr. Maegan Bos’ mailbox in the Math office or sent via e-mail to mbos@stlawu.edu
