Balance Rod with Mass at End | |
Description: | Two masses are attached to the end of a metal rod. |
Notes: | Students can carefully balance the rod by first holding the end closest to the masses, then the opposite end. Demonstrates that the rod is more stable when the moment of inertia is greater. This rod is used in the Phys103 Torque experiment along with Inertia Wands. Having a hard hat available for students is optional, but desirable. |
