The Hydrogen Spectrum

Room setup; note how setups are staggered


Place spectrometer on wood platform;
elevates to proper position on H-tube


Side view: spectrometer on platform

If there aren't enough platforms, other wood
chunks can be used.

Sodium sources are set up on back side of rear benches when
only 6 spectrometers are used

Both sides of the sodium source are used

The slit aperture on sodium source
(Note that rods are removed during use!)

A light aperture (center) with the rods removed is used on the side(s)
of the sodium source observed with a spectrometer. A light block (left)
is used if a side of the source is not used

Sodium source placed on right-side bench along wall when
7 or 8 spectrometers are used
Other spectra
Demo bulbs and 2x2 diffraction gratings set up on right-side bench (L-R):
Incandescent bulb (continuous spectrum); Helium; Neon; Argon; Reveal© bulb (absorption spectrum). Note black cloth behind bulbs
