| Description: | A compass that is free to move in 3-dimensions. |
| Notes: | We own two of these; the other one is kept with the compasses in the non-Major's stockroom. Each one has a plastic case with instructions; please return the probe to its case when finished. The 'needle' of this compass is suspended within a gimble, attached by fine needle bearings. This allows you to move the probe around all axes of a magnet (or current-carrying wire or coil) to visualize the B field. It is used by the instructor during the Lenz's Law (Phys104/152) and Magnetism (Phys104) experiments for demonstration. |
