Notes:

• Lab setup (photo details):
  • Note: Keep string length (from end of vibrating finger to pulley) at 2 meters or less. You get higher amplitudes from shorter string lengths!
  • Connect function generator to string vibrator using a short BNC cable and a BNC to double-banana (male) adapter (photo at right)
    • If the BNC connector is the wrong type, use short barrel connector to attach to the BNC cable
  • The Function Generator Knob Adapter is a clear plastic disk that is pressed onto the Frequency knob to allow more precise adjustment of the frequency. Place an adapter on each function generator (see photo details)

• String setup (See detailed photos page!)
  • Set the distance 'X' in the figure below (from the front of the vibrator box to the pulley) to approximatley 2 meters (use a 2-m stick)
  • Connect function generator to string vibrator with short BNC cable and BNC-to-double-banana (male) adapter
  • Press a Function Generator Knob Adapter on the Freqency knob
  • Press these two buttons: Sine and 100
  • Adjust Ampl (amplitude) knob so that it is in the 3 o'clock position; leave the freqency around 10 Hz.
  • Use a small pulley clamp to mount the pully!
  • Make sure mass hanger doesn't interfere with the pulley post
