Notes:

• Lab setup (see the photo details page as well as the wiring diagrams below):
  • The storage boxes are numbered 1 through 8. Place them as shown below. Each storage box has a pre-drawn conducting paper inside. Storage box #1 has extra sheets of conducting paper, including a few with electrodes already drawn on them.

  

   

• Main power supply connection:
  • Note: The big power supply in the stockroom is used to distribute voltage to the lab benches from the lab power supplies. Jeff will take care of this following his instructions for configuration with an external power supply
  • A power supply on the instructor's bench is used to provide ±15 V to all the connected boards. Depending on availability, one dual-power supply (each side set to independent) will generally be used (Figure 1). If a dual-power supply is not available, two single-power supplies are connected in series (Figure 2)
    • Note that Figures 1 and 2 show a green wire connecting the power supply's GND connector to the green ground on the power panel. A 12" black wire is used for this connection
  • Set the power supply voltage as follows (note that this procedure is illustrated in the Instructor Notes for the Photoelectric Effect):
    • Connect the black wire of the voltmeter to the green panel connector.
    • Connect the red voltmeter wire to the red panel connector, and adjust the right side power supply to +15V
    • Move the red voltmeter wire to the black panel connector and adjust the left side power supply to -15V
