Nordic Videos

A selection of interesting videos featuring nordic skiing.

Skating:

Northug can throw down. I think nike should give him a signature boot because he's basically the Jordan of this sport (except significantly more cocky. He described his win as "a ski race for children.").

Double Poling:

Note: The Eurosport commentator for the men's final incorrectly refers to Jens Arne Svartedal as "Hjelmeset." Also of interest is the choise of skis. Newell and Naess, among others, chose to ski this race on waxless skis. On a course like this, which is flat but fairly technical, a number of the competitors also wore high cuff pursuit boots. I would also like to point out the great double poling segment in the Vasaloppet video about 4:30 in.

P.S. Borre Naess is am very bad man when it comes to double poling (I mean that in the best way possible)

Classic:

I'm still looking for some good footage of classic. These segments are from a sprint race after the world championships and although there is a significant amount of striding, it's a sprint and it's frantic.

Historic:

The most exciting relay of all time! It all came down to a dramatic finish between Oddvar Braa and Aleksader Savjalov. I think it is probably the sports clip that gets re-broadcast the most in Norway. Consider it the Norwegian "shot heard 'round the world." Here's a link on fasterskier that explains it: Braa vs. Savjalov
